Parish History

Saint Jane Frances de Chantal Parish was established on May 13, 1948 when Reverend Thomas Lahart was appointed pastor by Cardinal McIntyre to form a new parish which would include portions of Saint Francis de Sales, Saint Elizabeth and Saint Charles Borromeo Parishes.

The Parish was named for Jane Frances de Chantal, a 16th century saint. Jane was born into a well-to-do family and married when she was 21 to Baron de Chantal. For seven years she was a loving mother and wife until her husband’s untimely death. After his death she began her second career. With the advice of her spiritual advisor, Saint Francis de Sales, she founded the Sisters of Visitation. She had two careers but one vocation – a deep love of God.

In January of 1963, the Archdiocese offered the parish to the care and administration of the Carmelite Fathers. In October 1964, plans were approved for a 14,505 square foot church with a capacity for 960. On January 9th, 1966 ground breaking began for the construction of the new church, completed in 1967.

Third Order Carmelites

Two Lay Carmelite Third Order Chapters were established in 1984 with the endorsement and encouragement of Cardinal Manning. The Chapters of Saint Elijah and Blessed Titus Brandsma have become staples in the life of Saint Jane Frances de Chantal Parish. They have been instrumental in a number of changes and customs that have become a part of parish life.

The School

Throughout 1949 and 1950, there was much talk of building a school. On September 17, 1951, a school was finally established and staffed by the Sisters of Saint Joseph of Carondelet. The Sisters of Saint Joseph who had served the school since 1951 withdrew in 1977-78. Mr. Edgar Sedano is the current principal. Our parish school continues to educate and care for the spiritual growth of our children in the rich tradition of the Catholic faith. Our school is known for its high academic standards and excellence. Under Mr. Sedano, the school has seen rapid revitalization and growth. Come and see!
